Tuesday, August 1st, 1899

Tuesday August 1/99
The Weather is lovely the Water calm at 2 pm we sighted Land and about 6 pm we anchored at the Quarentine Station where we excemed by the Board of Health Doktor we only had a few cases of Sicknes and the Health in general was good we layed in the Bay all Night and on account of it their was no cheering done in respect of our dead Colonel

Wednesday, August 2nd, 1899

Wednesday August 2/99
the Weather in Frisco is colder at Night but during the day it is compfortable at 9 am the Colonels Remains where taken of the Boat and placed in a Hearse and taken to a Undertaking Exstablishment and put in a better Casket and from there it was taken to the Masonic Temple where it laid in State we had a large pier all day for ourself but at 5 pm had Shoreleave until 10 p.m. all our Bagage was sorted and put on the Pier

Thursday, August 3rd, 1899

Thursday August 3 99
Weather is lovely the Goverment didn't furnich us with Breakfast so the Captain took us to a large Restaurant wher we had a good Breakfast and returned back to the Ship at 9 o Clock we all fell in line and marched escorted by the Nebraskan Oregon Regimenc and Utah Battery and the Regular out to the Precisio Camp 5 Miles out of the City the peaple gave us a Royal Reception ariving at Camp we where invited by the Nebraskas to a good Dinner our tents wher all ready fitted up 8 men to a Tent we have Flors in our tents also a Straw Matress and Pilow this is the finest Camp we had sins our Enlistment also our Ration are good

The Weather is lovely we all spent a good Night in our soft Beds we have a smal Stove in each Tent wich makes it very compfortable we signed the Pay Roll to day and also Inspection paper I signed my not in good Health Rheumatism and Bladder disease we spent most of the day in resting up and writing to Home Friends

The Weather is lovely we have no drill of any Kind only Guard duty I was on Guard all day and didnt attend the Funeral of our Colonel wich took place at 2 p.m. in Masonic Temple the Funeral was large and was by some 3000 Soldier and about 1000 Mason in Parade it was send to his late Home acompanied by chaplan Hunter and also by H Co wich escorted the Remains across the Bay to Oakland

Sunday, August 6th, 1899

To day I went to Sausalito with M. Johnson & Joe Richway and Mr & Mrs Shoult of Frisco to visit Mrs Gallagher we had a splendid Time we returned in Camp at 10 clock the Night was real cold

Monday, August 7th, 1899

Monday Aug 7/99
We are enjoying Camp life here we have but verry little Duty to perform and can leave Camp at any time we are getting every thing readdy on August the 9th we comenced to get the Muster Out Rolls readdy I helped to worked at them 4 days on August 14 we had our Guns and other Asudlunels am attending regular Service at christian church and at the Camp and some good Operas the Health of the Boys is fine only a few Men are on the sick List None verry serious

Monday 21/99
passed all Week in resting up and reading and eating Sunday attenden church at 12 Street and in Camp we are buisy packing our trunks and exspect to be mustered out to morrow I have been selling Pictures and Handkershif for a few days in Camp for pasttime all out Boys are fairly well wrote my last letters Home to day. I also recieved our Major Neff still insist on me going to the Hospital for an operation for my testicals the sure are bad and mighty painfull each on weigh about one pound in fact he has allready made arangement for me but I am afraid the may remove both of them so I will wait until I get home and see what Dr Eastman says I have mor Confidence in him. I am too anxious to get home and see the Wife and Baby after that I dont care well there is too much Exitment around here now and I will quit the Boys are still teasing me about my (Bulls Nuts) Examanations is finiched and we dont know whats next and I dont care so we get home
