The weather is fine and clear. We are still going through deserts but at 3 p.m. we got into the heart of California. People cheered us all along the route and at every station we stopped and people gave us coffee cakes, sandwiches and oranges, cheers and flowers in abundance. We arrived in Oakland at midnight. We layed there until morning and then started across to San Francisco where we arrived at about 8:00 a.m.
